BSAGUIDEBOOK.com was established for two purposes:
1. Provide a list of editable documents that can be customized to build a Scout / Parent guidebook.
2. Provide LDS Stake and Ward leaders a resource for calling and directing new Scout Leaders in a Unit specific editable formate.
The Scout / Parent guidebook is intended for use with a new Scout and his parents as he first enters your program. As an adult leader you should make arrangements with your youth leaders to visit the new unit member and his parents as soon as possible.
The documents included in each section will help you set the standard. Both the boy and his parents should understand what's expected. The guidelines include meetings, dress code, assignments, training and advancement. Include a yearly plan so that parents can arrange their schedules around your program. Make a list of your boys as well as those coming in for the next year and your adult leaders, this list should include phone numbers so the boy and his parents can contact the youth and adult leaders easily. Help your youth understand the importance of setting and attaining personal goals, if this plan is followed through the boys scouting years he will be prepared to set and accomplish life goals at age 19 and beyond. Simple advancement trackers are included for each level of Scouting. Challenge the parents to keep a record and review it with their son each month. These interviews can open the door to communication between the boy and his parents on many subjects. At the conclusion of the visit have the boy and his parents complete the surveys and encourage the parents to be involved in the Scouting program.
The LDS Leaders section provides Bishopric and Stake leaders with guidelines for new leaders and a list of resources to get them off to a good start. These job descriptions provide the new leaders insight into their Scouting positions and a quick outline of what's expected.
